Senior Pastor
New Life Church

Have you always been so stylish and trendy in your dressing?

I wasn’t like this before. I was very conservative previously and didn’t care about my looks or appearance. Since the Lord called me to reach out to the younger generation, I tried to understand their pop culture, mindset and interests in fashion, design, arts, dance, music, theatre and many more. And as time passed, I began to assimilate into their world. I also started to develop an interest in the arts, which has made my world much more colourful and changed my perspective of fashion.

What are some challenges you faced when building a new media church?

The world of new media advances very quickly. It has progressed from traditional broadcasting to social media, IoT (Internet of Things), smart cities, A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality) and the list goes on. I believe the biggest challenge is changing people’s mindsets and getting them to understand the many facets of new media. It’s certainly not easy getting the community equipped. The young generation has always been seen traditionally as media-savvy and the ones heavily involved and active in new media. But in reality, new media transcends age, anyone regardless of how old or young, can be involved and be a curator of new media.

Apostle Lawrence Khong has been working on transforming the Arts & Entertainment world through magic. Some words of encouragement for him?

I admire Pastor Lawrence’s courage to use magic as an evangelistic tool to transform pop culture. This is an arduous task. I encourage Pastor Lawrence to teach the church more about pop culture. Although our vision may be controversial, the fruits of our labour will do the talking. Press on, Pastor Lawrence! Continue to fix your eyes on what God has called you to do and never give up.
